This page is broken up into several sections:
- Kohan -- For players of the computer game Kohan.
- Cosplayers -- Pictures of people in costume.
- Models & Art -- Samples of my miniature models and artwork.
- Software -- Free software I've written.
- Misc -- Everything else.
Kohan is a Real Time Strategy game with an emphasis on thoughful strategy over
quick mouse clicks. The engine is cleverly designed to reduce the amount of
micromanagement to almsot nothing. The game is also designed to make the
user to think about terrain, morale, upkeep, and manuvering on the
battlefield. This is my favorite computer game of all time (beating Starcraft).
Loki even did a port to Linux, but unfortunatly they went out of business
before they could port the expansion.
- Films from many games of Kohan
- Strategy for people new to the
game. Although this page is ment for beginners, there is material for
all Kohan players.
- Maps with lots of custom triggers or
interesting designs. Probably the only maps online worth downloading
IMHO.

sites
These are pictures of Cosplayers I've taken at the various Anime conventions I
frequent, including
Otakon,
Katsucon,
AnimeUSA, and
AMA. All of these pictures were
taken with my Kodak Dc3400 digital camera, which performs remarkably well
considering how cheap it was.
2001
-
This was one of the first conventions I brought my camera to.
I wasn't nearly as much of a shutterbug then.
-
The cosplay pictures came out dark and I havn't compensated
for it on any of these pictures.
2002
-
These pictures were indexed by a different program (not
genindex). The overall quality is pretty good, since the
hotel was well lit and I was bored at times.
-
I got over my shyness, but was hampered by a broken leg at
this Otakon. It's not easy to chase down cosplayers and take
pictures on crutches. You can actually see me in picture 839.
-
With no broken leg to hamper me, I managed to snap a gross of
pictures at this little con.
2003
-
Despite not making it back on Sunday on account of the 2 feet
of snow, I managed to take 254 pictures at Katsucon. The
hotel was a little cramped though, and it was hard to get good
shots.
-
Marvelous little convention down in Richmond, VA. The hotel
was a little odd, but the convention was very nice.
-
I worked staff at this convention in Virginia Beach, so I
don't have a lot of pictures. Nice convention, even if they
were a little too big for their hotel.
- Pictures of a few of my models
from Battletech, Heavy Gear, and Gear Krieg. Included is a HT-68
Hovertank (HG), Ferret (HG), Kodiak Destroyer (HG), Loki (GK), General
Early (GK), General Longstreet (GK), Strike Jaguar (HG), Black Cat
(HG), White Cat EWH (HG), Fire Hunter (HG--Custom), City Hunter (HG),
Jaguar (HG), Tarantula (BT), Tankhunter (HG).
Warning these pictures were taken with a security camera.
- Pictures of the Kinomoto Misaki with
Hikaru model I gave to my sister for Christmas '01. It came out
OK for a job that was rushed at the end. All in all I wish I'd spent
more time on it, but even this wasn't done until mere hours before
boarding the plane to Louisiana. Oh well, there's always next
time.
- Pictures of the Vash the Stampede
model I painted for Jessica's Birthday. This was a serious rush job
that really came out better than I expected (expect for the head).
- Also from the 2001 AnimeUSA convention: I took the cell painting
course (despite the 3 hour delay in starting) with the infamous
Steve Bennett.
Part of the course naturally involved painting your own cell. I
choose a Vampire Princess Miyu cell
that had unfortunatly been photocopied backwards. I thought I did ok
for my first time. :) The cell really does look better in person, for
some reason the photograph brought out all of the little
imperfections. :/
- From Otakon 2002,
I went to the cell painting workshop again and did a pretty spiffy
Naga (from
Slayers) cell.
Next time I hope to do even better. This one is a bit rough around
the edges but at least it is better than Miyu.
- If you've ever wanted to use regular expressions in C (are you
with me perl junkies?), but found the syntax of the POSIX regular
expression engine horrific (and who hasn't?), you'll want to take a
look at Easyregex, which is
a simple wrapper that hides the horrible POSIX interface and lets you
pop out regular expressions in no time.
- I have written a front end for dcgen.pl, a
Jovian Chronicles Lightning Strike Data Card generator script.
The datacards it generates are fully playable,
and are much much easier on your printer than the standard datacards.
Point your browser to LSheet and
generate your own.
- Here's a copy of the frequntly disappearing Heavy Gear vehicle
contruction system Under Construction.
I'm hoping to avoid the curse this utility brings to pages.
Everywhere it has been hosted in the past has disapperaed without a
peep rather quickly. Beware that this utility has not been updated
for the v.2 construction rules (and those rules are out of print!),
but the only real difference is a slight discrepancy in the TV
calculation that you can generally safely ignore.
- Way back in 1997 when I was trying to learn
Perl,
I wrote a little script that generated an index image for a directory
with a lot of images in it. I've used it for almost all of the
cosplay pictures above. Five years later I decided to release it
as Genindex 2.6.1. Granted there
are a lot of programs out there that generate indexes, but very few of
them keep the number of files down, avoid running themselves
needlessly, or generate fully W3C compliant web-optimized[1] HTML.
[1] By "web-optimized" I mean that the index is one large imagemap
instead of many smaller thumbnails. This is generally faster for
various reasons (TCP's somewhat expensive 3-way handshake and slow
start primarily).
For an example of Genindex in action, I have a small sample of
Masume Shirow images. This index was
created with the following genindex command with the default HTML
templates:
genindex -s index -f jpg -i -q -across 6
- My Battlemech Construction
Spreadsheet, which I used extensivly back on the old Mac. This
sheet is pretty sophisticated, but not particularly easy to use,
it was designed for me and my brother. With all of the myriad
true Battlemech construction programs out there I can't imagine
anybody is really interested in this. It wants Excel 95 or better
(although older versions of Excel will probablly work too).
